PODFLOW focuses on enabling a more continuous and frictionless mobility experience by addressing the structural inefficiencies that arise at the interface between transport modes. Current systems often require passengers and goods to adapt to infrastructure constraints, leading to time losses, increased costs, and reduced system flexibility.

To address this, the project explores modular transport concepts that allow movement across different infrastructures without the need for conventional transfer processes. By enabling transport units to operate across both road and rail environments, the system aims to reduce dependency on fixed hubs and enable more distributed and adaptable mobility networks.

A key area of investigation is the interaction between transport units and infrastructure, including alignment, coupling, energy exchange, and coordinated movement within dynamic transport formations. These elements are studied not as isolated technical challenges, but as part of an integrated system designed to operate under real-world conditions.

In parallel, the project considers the role of digital coordination systems in managing distributed assets, synchronising operations, and supporting decision-making processes across the network. This includes the ability to track system status, optimise flows, and adapt to changing demand in real time.

Through this approach, the project aims to contribute to the development of more flexible, scalable, and user-oriented mobility systems, capable of responding to evolving societal and operational needs.
